The media circus that has closely followed the parents of missing Madeleine McCann say they have no intention of leaving Portugal.
While Kate and Gerry McCann returned home to Rothley, Leicestershire today, a spokesperson for the circus confirmed they had no tour plans for the immediate future.
“We’ve been here for over four months and have enjoyed record breaking crowds,” said circus ringmaster and Sky News correspondent Ian Woods.
“Obviously there have been tears, but there’s been laughter too. Trevor MacDonald on stilts eating fire was a particular highlight for me,” recalled Woods.
The circus is camping at Estombar, near to Slide & Splash Park Aquatico, 4km from Portimeo police station were the McCanns were questioned last week.
Journalists, cameramen and researchers have become a familiar sight to nearby residents, dazzled by their death-defying feats.
“Moira Stewart estava em uma motocicleta, estando em sua cabeça. Era surpreendente. I molhado eu mesmo com amazment,” commented 54 year old cleaner Joana Melo.
The BBC’s Alison Roberts in Portugal said the media circus had at one point escalated into a media frenzy for a few hours at the height of the investigation.
“Everyone lay down their unicycles and tore the clothes off one another,” said Roberts. “There were fluids and tits everywhere.”
